Internet Marketing 101
Hundreds of others have pages and advice on this subject, and seeing as we are an active practioner in this area, it only seems natural that
we'd contribute to the pool of knowledge.
The first and most important thing to know is that the best designed web site in the world is totally useless unless you can get traffic to
it. We include in "best designed" the understanding that the design is one that "converts" with a good percent. What is that percent? There
is no across the board average. It depends on the market, the product, and other variables, but a conversion of even 5% is considered "good".
So the name of the game becomes: TRAFFIC
There is no absolute one way to get the best traffic. As we enter 2008 however, the consensus seems to be shifting toward
social networking. All kinds of courses are being offered on this topic, ranging in price from the high "20s" to several thousand. Return in a
week or so for our recommendation.
The second consensus seems to be that ezines work very well.. but can be time consuming. But then again, so can joining social
networking sites and doing the many posts.
We have two choices.. spend time or spend money. Acually, a successful marketing campaign is a blend of both. Just as "coca cola"
does not limit advertising to simply TV, papers, etc. but uses several marketing mediums, to be successful, you will want to do the same.
ADVERTISING
Again, this comes in all formats, but the trend in the early 2008 years is moving toward Craigs List. This is ideal because of
the traffic and the cost... free.
However to control it and to keep it relevant, Craigs List has imposed a set of rules nearly as strict, within context, as Google
and Yahoo have. This site is NOT, nor was it ever designed, to be a mass marketing commercial site. Posters are limited to very few ads and not
posting identical ads to several ciites. You can post similar, but not identical, ads.. but again, we face the time question.
Fortunately, a computer can take a basic ad and modify it to be unique; it can also do the repetitive log in chores, and there
are at least 3 software developers promoting software that will do these things.
These are EZAd Poster, which comes in two versions... basic and deluxe.. and in their sales copy, they are not delineated
well. A second is Craygo, and lastly, but not listed in any order of particular preference, is Admaster.
We have used both EZ in the deluxe version, and looked at the indepenent upgrade known as Account Creator and we've used
Admaster.
To use any of these, you have three distinct functions to perform to post multiple ads: 1) Changing the ad wordage to be unique,
2) Changing the associated email account, and 3) Chaning the IP of the originating poster. Each can do this with the basic program OR
the purchase of ad ons. Not all functions are included in all three products.
For the serious and heavy duty poster, EZAd Poster, with it's 3rd party upgrades of Account Creator and IPGreen give you the most
serious and effective performance. That performance exceeds the needs of most entry level CL users. In the end, the old saying of "you get what
you pay for" holds true.
For the average or beginner, Admaster performs all 3 functions very well and requires no upgrades. We are told that if a user
advances to a "professional level CL poster" they may want to upgrade to EZAP.. in which case the Admaster becomes a "sunk cost"...
unless, of course, you can sell it on the used software market such as with eBay.
For our purposes and as we suspect most of our readers are beginners, we recommend Admaster.
